Earl Shirey

August 12, 1919 — October 9, 2009

Earl Willard Shirey, Sr., 90, husband of Grace A. (Sterner) Shirey and the late Pearl V. (Weller) Shirey, of Gilbertsville, died Friday, October 9th in Pennsburg Manor. He and his wife celebrated 33 years of marriage on April 17th.

Born in New Berlinville, PA on August 12, 1919, he was the son of the late Raymond and Lizzie (Pennepacker) Shirey.

He retired in 1984 from Bally Case and Cooler where he had worked for many years in the Shipping Department.

Earl was a member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing and working on puzzles and spending time at gatherings with his family.

Surviving along with his wife are a son, Earl W. Shirey, Jr. and his wife, Eileen M. of Barto, PA; two daughters, Gloria A. Eidle and her husband, Frank of Barto, PA and Janet L. Groff and her husband, Raymond of Boyertown, PA; five grandchildren, Dwayne, Dean, Christine, James, Christopher and ten great-grandchildren. Along with his parents and first wife, he is predeceased by a sister, Anna Kemmerer and two grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at New Goshenhoppen U.C.C., 1070 Church Road, East Greenville with the Rev. Dr. Deborah Rahn Clemens officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the New Goshenhoppen Memorial Fund.
