Doris J. (Heacock) Slonaker, 87, affectionately known as "Tootie", of Frederick Living and formerly of Palm and Red Hill, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at Reading Hospital surrounded by her family.
Born in Sumneytown, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Catherine (Hafler) Heacock.
Tootie married her beloved husband, Carl F. Slonaker, Sr., in August of 1954 and they shared 70 years of marriage before his passing in August 2024. Together, they navigated life's joys and challenges, raising their family with dedication and love. In earlier years, she enjoyed cooking and was known for family picnics and shrimp dinners, which brought her family together creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love. She had a passion for crocheting and found joy in playing bingo with friends. Known for her sweet tooth, she had an undeniable affection for chocolate.
For ten years, Tootie served as a custodian with the Upper Perkiomen School District, where she was known for her strong work ethic and the care she brought to her role before retiring in 1999. Prior to her tenure at the school district, she spent 18 years working at the former Keystone Transformer Company in Pennsburg. Tootie was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She faced immense heartache with the recent loss of her son, Scot Slonaker, and of her husband, Carl, yet she remained a pillar of strength for her family.
Her vibrant spirit, gentle smile, and loving nature will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by a son, Carl F. "Skeeter" Slonaker, Jr. and wife, Sheri of East Greenville; daughter-in-law, Kelly Slonaker of Perkiomenville; sister, Patricia Niemy and husband, John of East Greenville; sister-in-law, Florence Heacock of Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Steven, Christopher, Kasey, and Carson; and 7 great-grandchildren: Joshua, Nathan, Emily, Zaidyn, Braelyn, Grace and Sasha. Along with her husband and son, she is also predeceased by siblings, Gloria Kulp, infant twin brothers, Clarence and Lawrence Heacock, Woodrow Heacock, and twin brothers, Ronald and Donald Heacock.
A viewing will take place at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington St., East Greenville, PA on Thursday, December 5th beginning at 10 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM. Burial will be in Friedens Union Cemetery.
