It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald E. Schmoyer, 85, of Barto. He was the beloved and devoted husband of Georgina (Bauman) Schmoyer through 64 years marriage. Donald passed away at home on Sunday, February 28, 2016, after many years of illness.
Born in Seisholtzville, PA he was the son of the late John and Jennie (Baus) Schmoyer.
Over his lifetime, Donald held employment at Pennsburg Auto Parts, Great American Knitting Mills and Bally Ribbon Mills.
Donald was a life-long car buff, and a huge auto racing fan. For many years he spent endless hours servicing and tinkering with the various vehicles he owned and also grooming his lawn and garden. He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Pike Township Sportsman’s Association.
He will be remembered for his quiet demeanor and dry sense of humor, and most certainly for his love of family, friends and animals.
He will be sadly missed by his wife; his two daughters, Diane, wife of Ernest Gehman of Boyertown and Janice, wife of Mark Stone of Barto; two grandchildren, Matthew Gehman and wife, Cynthia of Bally and Philip Gehman of Gilbertsville; 2 great-grandchildren, Brian and Sakura Gehman; and a sister, Mildred Miller of East Greenville. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, Wilmer Schmoyer and a great-grandson, Joshua Gehman.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 22 Washington Street, East Greenville with Monsignor Edward J. Coyle officiating. Family and friends are invited to a calling hour from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service. Offer sympathy to the family at www.mannslonakerfuneralhome.com.
