Darren E. Robinson, 58, of Pennsburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the loving son of Gwendolyn (Nelson) Robinson of Philadelphia and Caldwell Robinson, Jr. (Valerie) also of Philadelphia.
He was a 1984 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Spring Garden College in 1989. He was a mainframe computer programmer for over 30 years and spent 20 years working for Amerihealth. He was currently employed at Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Darren was a faithful man and was an active member of Branch Creek/LCBC in Harleysville, where he served on the sound team. He was a former councilman for Pennsburg Boro where his passion for recreation and the outdoors, brought many enhancements to the community parks and outdoor activities in the Upper Perkiomen Valley. Darren also touched many lives through his many years of coaching basketball. He began coaching the Upward Basketball Team, then moved to coaching the Upper Perk Club Travel Team and finished his coaching career with the AAU Barnstormers. He did all of this with his former wife by his side as an assistant coach. In his earlier years, he sang in the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Philadelphia. He also enjoyed gardening, mowing, listening to R&B and Jazz music, and grilling/smoking on the grill.
Darren will be remembered for his infectious laugh, the ability to make everyone around him happy, his generous nature and the love he had for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are his three adoring children, Gabrielle S., Jessica J. and Eric “Isaiah” Robinson; one grandson Karter Brewster; former wife, Terrell C. Robinson; his brother, Caldwell “Buzzy” Robinson, III; his special sister cousin, Chaunte Nelson; cousin and best friend Clarence "Boo"; many beloved special first cousins; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A viewing will begin at 9 AM on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at LCBC Church, 100 Main Street, Harleysville, PA 19438 with a service starting promptly at 10 AM. A burial in Chelten Hills Cemetery, Philadelphia will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to LCBC Church in Harleysville.
