Boots Mutter

December 9, 1941 — January 7, 2022

Leo D. “Boots” Mutter, 80, of Bally, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was the loving husband of the late Alice “Faye” (Hetrick) Mutter, sharing 57 years of marriage together.

Born and raised in Bally, he was the son of the late Harold and Anna (Keim) Mutter.

Boots was a 1959 graduate of Boyertown High School. He was an auto mechanic for Quigley Motors in Boyertown for many years before owning and operating Mutter & Stauffer Auto in East Greenville for 24 years. He then went on to work as the Bally Borough Manager until his retirement in 2017.

Boots was a devoted member of fire service, having served the Goodwill Fire Company of Bally for 64 years as a firefighter, fire chief for 31 years, fire marshal, trustee, and took care of the all the ground maintenance. He was also a member of Bally Community Ambulance where in 1964, he became the 79th EMT in Pennsylvania. He also served as the treasurer and sat on the ambulance board. He was the deputy of Emergency Management Services for Bally, served on the zoning hearing board of Bally, was on Bally Borough Council, and was also a lifetime member of Gilbertsville Fire Co. and Pikeville Gun Club.

Along with being an active member of his community, there was nothing more he loved to do than enjoy time with his family and friends. He loved NASCAR and anything Dodge. He would enjoy attending the Chrysler Car Show in Carlisle and the Antique Truck Show in Macungie every Father’s Day.

Surviving are his two sons, Randall A. Mutter and wife, Loree of Ishpeming, MI and Glenn A. Mutter and wife, Wendy of Bally; six grandchildren, Allana and Austin Mutter, Don Reynolds, Kari Dotterer, Justin Eddinger, and Sierra Mutter; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and patents, he is predeceased by his brothers Charles “Pete” and Paul Mutter.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5PM on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Goodwill Fire Co. of Bally, 537 Chestnut St, Bally, PA 19503.
