Betty (Detweiler) Gehman, 94, widow of John B. Gehman, of Barto, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest.
Born in Sellersville, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Eva (Derstine) Detweiler.
She was a co-owner, along with her husband, of Butter Valley Golf Course. She also had worked at the former Pillsbury plant in East Greenville as a custodian and test baker and was also a farm wife. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting and cross stitching.
Betty was a member of Bally Mennonite Church where she was active in the church’s sewing circle. She was also a member of the Pennsylvania Flying Farmers Association since 1950.
Surviving are three children, Faye D., wife of James L. Hertzler of Narvon, Betty Lou Kifer of Green Valley, AZ and John L. Gehman and wife, Joan of Barto; a sister-in-law, Alice Detweiler of Barto; 7 grandchildren, John D. Gehman, Troy M. Hertzler, Jane W. (Kifer) Donofrio, Joshua W. Gehman, Jackson P. Gehman, Mitchell T. Hertzler and Jerri F. Mallon and 14 great grandchildren, Kylie B. Hertzler, Zachary J. Gehman, Antonio Donofrio, Cole G. Hertzler, Lily J. Gehman, Blake R. Gehman, Wyatt X. Gehman, April E. Gehman, Connor W. Gehman, Calvin Gehman, Carlotta Donofrio, Ryder Hertzler, Bryce Hertzler and Finn Hertzler. Along with her husband and parents, she is predeceased by a brother, Willard Detweiler.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Bally Mennonite Church, 1481 Rt. 100, Barto, PA. Burial follows in Hereford Mennonite Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA.
