Betty M. Dzurenda, 89, of Victoria, Texas, formerly of York, PA passed away on Monday, March 26, 2012.
She married Michael L. Dzurenda, who is formerly of Pennsburg, in June, 1951 celebrating 60 years of marriage together.
Born in York, PA, she was a daughter of the late Cleatus and Ethel Messinger. Betty was a Long Distance Telephone Operator for Bell Telephone in York, PA in the 1940’s…a job she dearly loved. They lived originally in Charleston, West Virginia, where Michael worked as an Engineer for Union Carbide Corporation. They moved to Houston, TX in 1967, while still employed by UCC. They then moved to Victoria, TX in 1971, where Michael was Plant Engineering Manager at the UCC plant …Seadrift. He retired from UCC/Dow in 1978 and is currently a Professional Engineer, practicing as an Engineering Consultant.
After marrying Michael she was a homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed doing embroidery and quilting and was a member of a sewing circle for many years.
She will be sadly missed by her husband; two children, Carolyn Jean, wife of Philip Thompson of Austin, TX and Stephen M. Dzurenda and wife, Christina of Laredo, TX; her granddaughter, Courtney Morley and two great grandchildren, Brenna and Evelyn Morley. Along with her parents, she was predeceased a sister, Jeanne Sechrist.
A private funeral service was held in Victoria, Texas with a private family viewing at the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home and private graveside funeral service and interment at Frieden’s Union Cemetery, Sumneytown with the Rev. John Bernsen, Interim Pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church officiating.
