Astrid H. (Johnson) Pehek, 88, of Pennsburg, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Genesis Quakertown Center. She was the loving wife of the late Dr. John O. Pehek sharing 59 years of marriage together before his passing in 2016.
She was born on March 24, 1932 in Weston, CT to the late Karl and Ida (Nohr) Johnson.
Astrid was a graduate of Mt. Sinai Diploma School where she earned a RN degree in nursing. She was a registered nurse at St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center in Lawrenceville, NJ. She also worked many years as a manager at family planning clinics, first Planned Parenthood in Trenton, NJ and then at Maine Family Planning in Lewiston, ME.
Astrid loved the outdoors and supported funding for nature preservation. She had a special fondness for wildflowers, searching for them in the wild and cultivating them at home during her years in rural Maine and her more recent home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She was good at everything she did which included multiple craft activities as well as cooking, sewing, gardening and playing the piano. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage.
Surviving are her three children, Dr. Elizabeth Pehek of Solon, OH, Dr. Ellen Pehek and husband, Jack Baker of Hampton, NJ and Paul Pehek of Pennsburg, PA; two grandchildren, Maria and Matthew Headen; and a sister, Anne Anderson of West Redding, CT. In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by a brother, Karl Arne.
Due to the unprecedented circumstances presented by the COVID-19, services will be private at this time. A memorial service will be announced by the family at a later date.
