Cremation Services What Is Cremation? Cremation is a process of reducing the human remains to small bone fragments and ashes by the use of intense heat. The remains are then placed into a temporary container or an urn and are then ready for burial or memorialization. Does Cremation Take The Place of a Funeral? No. Cremation is an alternative method of disposing of human remains, as is earth burial. Ashes are the cremated remains of a person who has lived, was loved, and has died. A funeral service or memorial service should be held to help the family through the grieving process. If I am Cremated, Can I Still Have a Viewing or Funeral? Yes, many families have a viewing and funeral service prior to the cremation then bury the ashes at a later date or keep or scatter the ashes. Is Embalming of the Body Necessary? Embalming is required by law if there is to be a viewing or funeral service prior to the cremation. If the cremation is to be immediate, embalming is not necessary.
