Obituary for Beverly Sterrett (Havener)

Beverly H. (Havener) Sterrett, 92, known to her friends as “Bev”, died peacefully, Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Pennsburg Manor, Pennsburg, PA.

Born in Rockland, ME on September 30, 1925, she was the youngest daughter of Francis E. and Edna (Kennedy) Havener. She was a 1941 graduate of Rockland High School (Rockland Maine), went on to attend Ohio State University and graduated from Fisher College in Boston.

On June 6, 1948, she married James P. Sterrett, Sr. of Mifflintown, PA. The couple made their first home in Springfield, VT. After many years they relocated to Telford, PA and ultimately upon retirement moved to Mifflintown, PA. Her husband Jim passed away January 12, 2015.

Beverly worked for a few years as an Administrative Assistant at the Bryant Chucking Grinder Co. in Springfield, VT. Then, later on she served many years as Executive Assistant to the President of Stainless, Inc. in North Wales, PA., where she took great pride in her duties.

She was a longtime active member of the First Congregational Church in Springfield, VT, then the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harleysville, PA and the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Mifflintown, PA. She was always happy to serve and help in any capacity she could. Beverly loved to swim and worked as a life guard during summer camp while in school in Rockland. While living in Vermont, she learned to ski and got quite good at it. She and her family took yearly summer vacations on the coast of Maine and Beverly and her husband liked to dress up and go out ballroom dancing. She loved time spent with family and enjoyed socializing with her many friends.

Surviving are her children, James P. and Barbara B. Sterrett of Voorhees, NJ and David H. and Debra L. Sterrett of Perkiomenville, PA; granddaughters, Dr. Kristin Sterrett and husband Dr. Matthew Zipse of Denver, CO and Jessica Sterrett of Frederick, MD; step-granddaughters, Emily Hepburn and husband Matthew of Haddonfield, NJ and Jennifer Saari of Philadelphia, PA; and step-great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Hepburn of Haddonfield, NJ.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Francis E. Havener, Jr. and Richard Havener and sisters, Margaret Calderwood and Norma Worley.

A private graveside service was held at the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Mann-Slonaker, Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA 18041. Offer sympathy to the family at
