Obituary for Robert J. Wood
Robert J. Wood, 86, of Red Hill, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016 at home. He was the husband of Joan M. (Buck) Wood with whom he shared 58 years of marriage on November 22, 2016.
Born in Allentown, PA, he was the son of the late James L. and Sadie P. (Kline) Wood.
The early years working for the family business; Woodson Dairy, Robert reminisced about delivering milk on cold snowy mornings. Later after graduating from Penn State University, he took the roll of lab technician as well as many other roles covering 30 years at the Dairy. He also worked for the PA Department of Agriculture as a Milk Sanitarian for 15 years before retiring.
As an avid antique car collector, he was a lifelong member of the AACA, Pottstown Region, Ontelaunee Region, ATCA, and Divco Clubs. He was also active and vocal in many civic activities, such as the Jaycees and the planning commission for Route 663. As well as serving the Montgomery county Joint Sewer Authority for over 40 years.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Red Hill.
Surviving along with his wife, are four children, Donna M., wife of Brian Stever of Red Hill, Judy A., wife of Ryan Christman of Whitehall, Alan R. Wood and wife, Jane of Boyertown and Carol J., wife of Kenneth Klus of Bethlehem; six grandchildren, Amy, Matthew, Laura, Sarah, Benjamin and Jennifer; and three great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Conner, Brielle and two expected in the spring.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1244 St. Paul’s Church Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073 with Rev. James Heckman officiating. Burial follows in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA 18041. Offer sympathy to the family on our website at www.mannslonakerfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, PO Box 47, Pennsburg, PA 18073.
