Obituary for Donald Frye Young
Donald F. Young, 86, husband of Elaine (Houskeeper) Young, of Quakertown and formerly of Hellertown Ave, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at home.
Born in Pennsburg, he was a son of the late Osborne and Rebecca (Frye) Young.
He was a 1948 graduate of Pennsburg High School and worked as an Operating Engineer for heavy equipment for James. D. Morrissey, Inc, in Philadelphia.
Donald served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Pennsburg, a member of the IUOE and the Blue Bird Society.
Donald enjoyed the outdoors, building bluebird houses and establishing a bluebird trail. He received commendations from the PA Fish and Game Commission for his work on restoring the bluebird population in PA.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 60 years, are two children, Eric L. Young and his wife, Lisa of Quakertown and Adriene Woodin of Crofton, MD; sisters, Mildred Culhane of Pennsburg; Harriet Bowman of East Greenville; Bernice, wife of Elmer Cragg of Churchville; and Anna Franzone of Norristown; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jennifer. He was predeceased by a daughter, Diane Louise Young and six brothers and sisters, Mary Krause, Ruth Klebe, Dorothy Bytheway, Jane Istes and Norman and Calvin Young.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Monday, December 7, 2015 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 81 Main Street, Pennsburg, PA with Rev. Charles A. Romanowski officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
There will be a visitation from 10 am until 11am on Monday at the church.
